Post Two in a Series of Five…
5 core values to look at for your next step
Let’s narrow down your choices for where you choose to work. Remember, a well-matched professional recruiter (more on this in our final post of this series of 5 posts) will work with you to find the best of your core values wish list for the great job you want and deserve
1. What size company do you want to work for?
This one is easy. Do you prefer a company that is large: more than 1000 employees; medium: between 100 and 999 or small: 99 and fewer?
2. What kind of culture do you feel the most natural in?
• Do you prefer top down Conventional or Hierarchical Culture or collaborative Team First management styles?
• Do you want a Market Culture that focuses on the customer?
• Do you like a busy open atmosphere of a Clan Culture or do you prefer your own private
office preferably with a window that doesn’t look at a brick wall and where others prefer the same?
3. Geography—what location is essential for you to live your desired life?
• Do you want a shorter commute or at least convenient public transit?
• Do you like to have good eating places in walking distance so you can lunch with
colleagues?
• Weather, local activities, sports, theatre, schools for the kids, near an airport, city, rural,
suburban, so many tastes can be accommodated in the right combination for you
4. Pay and benefits packages.
No brainer here. You and (if you have one), your career counselor/coach have worked on this. You know what you want, talk to your recruiter/candidate rep about it.
5. Opportunities for upward mobility
If the trajectory you are on is for you to continue your advancement through the ranks to achieve the highest position that you are qualified for then seek an employer that understands and appreciates what you are bringing to the table.
Your recruiter candidate rep can help you present your best foot forward. Go for it.
Next week: Why haven’t you made that change yet?
